Around two weeks ago I changed to aligner number 11 and saw this message on the packet:

The Orth had explained that at around aligner 13 I would need to come in for some IPR.
IPR or Interproximal Reduction is the gentle and planned removal of a very small amount of the outer layer of enamel from between the teeth. Guy said this would improve the outcome of my treatment by creating space and reducing the appearance of 'black triangles' between the teeth. The technique is carried out by 'sanding' between the teeth using a fine, diamond coated strip. Agreed - this sounds horrendous but it really wasn't that bad.
I was in the chair for a total of 10 mins and Guy finely sanded between certain teeth to create little gaps. I did feel a sensation of pressure and I would say it wasn't exactly nice, but it definitely wasn't painful.
My mouth bled a tiny, tiny, bit but I was able to rinse this out at the end and it stopped really quickly.
You can see some gaps have been created that weren't there before:
It feels really weird having gappy teeth as my mouth has always been overcrowded, but I know that my teeth are continuing to move into exactly the right places. Also, over the past few hours I have found food is getting stuck in the gaps which means I am going have to be super strict with my flossing!
