Tuesday 26th March

Day 1 – Tray 1

I thought I’d do a little write up of my first 24 hours wearing Invisalign. So, I’m not going lie they do feel weird. I’ve never previously had braces and I feel like I just want to rip them out because there is something foreign in my mouth!!! I haven’t really been able to switch off and forget they are there yet and keep playing about with them with my tongue. My tongue is a bit red aswell (probably because I’m faffing about with them so much!) but I’ve read you can sometimes file your aligners down with a nail file/emery board if you do have any sharp bits.

After having them in for around 4 hours I went to CrossFit and had a really intense workout then after this is felt like the exercise had triggered something and my mouth started to really ache! It honestly felt a bit like I had been punched in the jaw! The nurse warned me after putting new aligners it might feel like this for a couple of days and it is completely normal - afterall the treatment is trying to move your teeth into a different position. I took two paracetamols as advised, and this quickly eased off.

I bushed my teeth 6 BLOODY times yesterday so please consider how committed you need to be to do this. I’ve decided to stick to just three meals a day (breakfast, dinner and tea) because taking them out, having a snack, brushing and putting them back in is JUST NOT WORTH IT! This can only be a good thing anyway and may help me lose some weight wooooooop #TheInvisalignDiet. Also, with drinks too I am tending to just stick to cold water so that I can leave them in.

I feel like I have a slight lisp when speaking! No one else has picked up on it and it’s probably me making more of a deal about it than anyone else but talking with something in my mouth is taking some time to get used to. The nurse advised to just sing my head off in the car to practice!

On a more positive note it’s not all bad. The aligners fit so snugly, and I can actually feel that they are doing something! As I don’t have any attachments on yet, they are honestly invisible. When I have shown people at work they have had to come super close to see and even then people are struggling to see there is anything there!

I am putting together a little kit to take with me when I’m on the move which I think will really help and I guess all of the above will get easier in time and will become part of my daily routine.
